What do we and the people around us feel? How are we copying with the pandemic, the daily news, with social distancing and other related issues?
These are the questions the S2 Art students of Ms Brunnert have pondered and painted in the last weeks before the summer holidays. They have created mixed media paintings reflecting on emotions they are dealing with.
The challenge was to avoid overused and obvious motifs such as masks, toilet paper, disinfectant, media images and text and to focus on creating more poetic and expressive images open to interpretation.
A second challenge was to integrate three different techniques in one image to create experimental paintings. The Art students looked at contemporary artists such as Paula Rego, Sigmar Polke, Rosemary Trockel, Michel Basquiat, Daniel Richter and Neo Rauch for inspiration. The results done during homeschooling are thought provoking and worth a second look.
Look closely at the mixed media paintings to see whether you can spot the different techniques each student used. And can you relate to the emotions they want to express?
